The  department  of  Hydrogeologyand  engineering  geology  was  founded in 2012. The department is a part of the  Geology  facultyand  is  one  of  the important  structural  departments  of  the university.

     The  main  task  of   the   department  is  the  organization  and  establishment  of  educational, scientific-research and  design  work  in  accordance  with  the  requirements  of  the  time. 

     At  the  Hydrogeology  and  engineering  geology  department   of   the   Geology   faculty   of  Yagshygeldi Kakayev  International  oil  and  gas  university, highly  qualified  specialists  are  being  trained  in  the  specialty  of “Hydrogeology  and engineering geology” for the Türkmengaz State Concern, the Türkmennebit State Concern and the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation of Oil and gas complex of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Construction and architecture of Turkmenistan,  the project institutes and the Institute of Seismology and atmospheric physics of the Academy  of  Sciences  of  Turkmenistan.

     The  Hydrogeology  and  engineering  geology  department  graduates  mining  engineers-hydrogeologists  with higher  education.

     The department includes:

     -  Hydrogeochemistry  laboratory;

     -  Soil  science  laboratory;

     -  Mechanics  of  Soils  laboratory.
