
The Turkmen Polytechnic Institute dates back to the technical faculty of the former Turkmen State University. In 1955, in addition to the Faculty of Engineering and Geology, the Faculty of Engineering began to train highly educated engineers in the fields of industrial and civil engineering, water supply and environmental pollution. In 1960, along with the technical faculty, three more new faculties were opened: Oil, Civil Engineering and Mechanical and Energy. It was created on September 1, 1963 in accordance with Decree No. 304 of June 14, 1963. The institute has 4 faculties and 26 departments.
The Turkmen State Institute of Oil and Gas was established on May 25, 2012 by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan No. PP-6081. By the decree of the President of Turkmenistan No. PP-6391 dated August 9, 2013, the Turkmen State Institute of Oil and Gas was awarded the title of International University and renamed the International University of Oil and Gas. On February 12, 2021, in accordance with Resolution 329-VI of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the International Oil and Gas University was renamed Yagshygeldi Kakayev and renamed Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas. Training, education and scientific guidance of world-class scientists at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas is carried out in cooperation with research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the production of the oil and gas industry. 7 faculties of the university train 23 highly qualified specialists and 14 bachelors in the areas of training, as well as 2 master's programs:
On 25 July 2013, theInternational Oil and Gas University was accepted for the UNESCO International Association of Universities founded in 1950 and uniting 630 universities andinstitutes with its secretariat in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. TheUniversity was also awarded the European Quality International Prize of theSocrates Committee of the Europe Business Assembly, Oxford, UK.
For its considerable contribution to the sphere of science and educationand training of highly qualified specialists the International Oil and GasUniversity was awarded a gold medal, prize and diploma of the internationalcontest “Gold Medal of the SEIN Association”.
Due to its successes in science and education as well as in theirintroduction of their results into production the Interna-tional Oil and Gas University takes its worthy place at international exhibitions. The Universitywas awarded several diplomas and certificates of these exhibitions.
The museum displays original samples of different rocks, botanolites,zeolites, minerals and other natural resources. One can acquaint him / herself with rocks, minerals and natural resources (silicates, sulphates, igneous and metamorphic rocks and others). The museum keeps some paleontological remainsallowing to determine the exact age of deposits dating back to different periods (Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cainozoic). There one can study the origin and geological significance of amazing natural objects (dinosaurs’ footprints, sea waves, shells, caverns and others).
